Description

“Ever-Changing: SOMA and Mission” Original Series

Sold as a set, the four pieces for the third location of the “Ever-Changing: San Francisco” collection, with snapshots in time from 1700,  1900, 2025, and 2500.

Exploring the past, present, and possible futures of the San Francisco landscape. Created to encourage reflections on our relationship to land, and introspections of our capacity to change. This set of four paintings shows the transformation of San Francisco’s SOMA and Mission, bringing to light stories of displacement and change. The 1700 and 1900 scenes were painted with intentional effort to adhere to historical accuracy, in consultation with historical surveys, maps, and photographs. The photo archives available at opensfhistory.org were particularly helpful in this effort of historical visualization. Imaginings of the 1700 landscapes were assisted by a publicly available map: Hidden Nature SF, crafted by the San Francisco Estuary Institute.

Drawn with permanent ink and painted with watercolor on hot press watercolor paper.

These original artworks are framed with conservation matboard and backing, in an 8″x10″ wood frame, with standard glass.
Ready to hang.
